The Eagles signed offensive lineman Mike McGlynn, one of the team's three fourth-round draft picks, to a four-year deal on Wednesday.

McGlynn is the second of 10 draft picks the Eagles have signed. Free safety Quintin Demps, who was drafted in the fourth round eight selections after McGlynn, agreed to terms on a four-year deal on May 30.

The 23-year-old McGlynn was a three-time All-Big East honoree during his career at Pittsburgh. After shifting from tackle to guard as a senior in 2007, McGlynn went on to earn third-team All-America accolades after the Panthers' offense amassed 981 rushing yards on 150 carries (6.3 average) and 15 touchdown when running to his side of the field.

McGlynn has been compared to Pro Bowl tackle Jon Runyan because of his nastiness and tenacity and is expected to play guard and center for the Eagles.

McGlynn was also a two-time recipient of the Ed Conway award in 2004 and 2005, which is given annually to the team's most improved player. After spending the 2003 season on the scout team, McGlynn went on to receive second-team All-Big East Freshman accolades the following year. In all, McGlynn appeared in 47 games and finished his collegiate career with a streak of 43 consecutive starts.

A native of Austintown, Ohio, McGlynn earned Super Prep All-Midwest and Prep Star All-Region honors as a senior at Austintown Fitch High School.

Actually, I think McGlynn will stay at guard. Keep in mind that both Shawn Andrews and Todd Herremans also play tackle and are listed as G/T on the team roster (if I recall correctly, Herremans even started a few games at left tackle in his rookie season when Tra Thomas was out with his back injury). I'm willing to bet that Andrews and Herremans are the team's future tackles (possibly even as soon as the 2009 season), while some combination of McGlynn, Jean-Gilles, and Nick Cole will be the guards.

While he does show best productivity at guard, he will probably be needed more at tackle after Winston Justice or Max Jean-Gillies fills in for William Thomas/Jon Runyan when they retire. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

i wouldn't mind seeing McGlynn at center, eventually becoming an ancor in the middle
