The Eagles added to their draft stockpile on Monday when the league announced compensatory draft picks for the April 26-27 weekend. Philadelphia received three extra draft picks, bringing its total to 11 for the weekend, gaining the 33rd pick in the fourth round (131st overall), the 34th pick in the sixth round (200th pick overall) and the 37th pick in the sixth round (203rd overall).
Baltimore and Cincinnati led the parade in compensatory picks, gaining an extra four picks each. Chicago, Indianapolis and Washington joined the Eagles with three extra selections.
Philadelphia's fourth-round pick is the fifth-highest selection awarded and the first compensatory pick in the fourth round. Baltimore, Cincinnati, Washington and Atlanta each have an extra third-round choice.
Compensatory draft picks are awarded based on the number of players a team lost in free agency the previous year against the number of players it signed. Also factored in is the performance of the players and the contracts those players signed. The Eagles lost players like safety Michael Lewis, quarterback Jeff Garcia, cornerback Rod Hood and wide receiver Donté Stallworth. The team spent money in free agency, adding wide receiver Kevin Curtis and defensive tackle Montae Reagor.
Thus, the Eagles are well armed heading into the draft weekend, particularly on the second day, when they have performed very well. The Eagles have two fourth-round draft picks and four sixth-round selections (the two compensatory picks, their own pick and a draft choice from Cleveland from the Hank Fraley trade).
Philadelphia owns the 19th pick in the first round on April 26.
