Inconsistent play early in the season is why we weren't able to play in the postseason. As the season went on, we developed some consistency. Late in the year, we won three straight so that's a good start for next year. I think the reason that we weren't able to get off to a good start is because we had so many new guys, including myself. It took me some time to get adjusted to the scheme once everything was put in. We had a lot of young guys playing. We had to develop some kind of continuity with each other. I think we did that.
Everyone can talk about whether Donovan McNabb was hurt or not. It wasn't even a year after his injury from last year and it takes a minute to recover. I know because I had the Achilles injury two years ago. As you saw, when he got healthier we started winning.
I'm not surprised that the Super Bowl turned out to be a tough, close game. I figured the Giants scheme with Steve Spagnuolo as the defensive coordinator would be attack, attack and attack. That's what you have to do to have any success against Tom Brady. You can't allow the guy the chance to sit back and throw the ball around like he's in a 7-on-7 drill in practice. However, I thought the Patriots would come out on top in the end.
So, now back to the Eagles? What does the front office have to do in the offseason so that we can have a chance to hoist the Lombardi Trophy next season? That's a good question. Donovan was asked that in an interview and he made the comment about getting more playmakers. To be truthfully honest, I don't have a problem with that because that's what the draft is for anyway. I don't see anybody's feathers getting ruffled over it. That's what the draft is all about - getting more players and playmakers in. I think we had the opportunity last year to play a lot of young guys. With that, those guys now have Year 2 coming up and they were able to get a lot of plays under their belt in Year 1.
We should be fine. It's not like we need to get a lot of players. We definitely don't need to do that.
