With a surplus of quarterbacks, the Eagles were able to swing a trade Monday that sent veteran Kelly Holcomb to the Minnesota Vikings for an undisclosed draft pick in 2009.
Holcomb was acquired by the Eagles in March when defensive tackle Darwin Walker was traded to Buffalo for Holcomb and linebacker Takeo Spikes. At the time, the Eagles were stacked with franchise quarterback Donovan McNabb, backup A.J. Feeley who signed a contract extension in the offseason and Holcomb. However, in the draft the Eagles added Kevin Kolb with their first pick.
In 10 NFL seasons, Holcomb has completed nearly 65 percent of his passes for 5,401 yards, 37 touchdowns and 37 interceptions. During stints in Indianapolis, Cleveland and Buffalo, Holcomb has started 21 games. In the 2002 season with the Browns, Holcomb threw for 429 yards and three touchdowns in a Wild Card loss to the Steelers. Holcomb's last game action came in 2005 when he started eight games for the Bills.
Holcomb's trade was a first in a series of roster moves to get the active roster to 75 before Tuesday's 4PM deadline.
Defensive end Jerome McDougle (triceps), running back Ryan Moats (fractured ankle) and guard Stefan Rodgers (Lis franc) were placed on injured reserve. All three players suffered season-ending injuries in the preseason loss to Baltimore and have since undergone successful surgeries.
The Eagles released the following six players: kicker E.J. Cochrane, wide receiver Dereck Faulkner, tight end Kyle Hunt, wide receiver Jermaine Jamison, safety Chris Smith and guard Chris White.
On Tuesday, linebacker Craig Kobel was waived/injured to get the Eagles to the roster limit.

A Look At The Roster Cuts |
|
| K E.J. Cochrane | David Akers is one of the best in the business. |
| WR Dereck Faulkner | Raw talent from Hampton lost in the numbers crunch. |
| TE Kyle Hunt | A body added in the spring wasn't expected to last this long. |
| WR Jermaine Jamison | Intrigued Eagles enough to take a second glance after last year's camp. |
| S Chris Smith | Fell out of favor as Gaddis and Paschal battle for 4th safety spot. |
| G Chris White | Plenty of o linemen coaches want to see Thursday, White not one of them. |
| LB Craig Kobel | Faced long odds to start, suffered a sports hernia which had to be surgically repaired. |
