Quarterback Donovan McNabb made his return Friday night, but 14 other Eagles did not dress for the second preseason game.
Defensive end Jevon Kearse, guard Shawn Andrews, tight end L.J. Smith and safety Brian Dawkins are the big names who rested Friday night. Dawkins returned to practice while recovering from Achilles tendonitis, but will wait until at least the third preseason game to make his return. Juqua Thomas started at left defensive end for Kearse, guard Max Jean-Gilles for Andrews, tight end Matt Schobel for Smith and safety Quintin Mikell for Dawkins.
Defensive tackle LaJuan Ramsey and running back Ryan Moats, who fractured his ankle, both sustained injuries at Baltimore and are out. Defensive tackle Ian Scott returned to practice this past week as he recovers from a knee injury, but he will wait to make his debut at Lincoln Financial Field. The inactive list was rounded out by quarterback Kelly Holcomb, wide receiver Bill Sampy, cornerback Dustin Fox, linebackers Craig Kobel and Dedrick Roper, guard Stefan Rodgers, defensive tackle LaJuan Ramsey and defensive end Jerome McDougle.
On a brighter note, cornerback Lito Sheppard and defensive tackle Montae Reagor returned to the field, now healthy from an oblique and knee injury, respectively.
For the Panthers, the only major omission was defensive end Julius Peppers, as Charles Johnson will start in his place. Aside from the prolific pass rusher, wide receivers Justin McCullum and Josh Davis, safety Nate Salley and cornerback Curtis Deloatch were out.
