Eagles wide receiver J.J. Outlaw is in NFL Europa with the Rhein Fire. This week, he explains the excitement over the team's first win, whether he's following the NFL Draft and what it's like to play with former practice squad member Christian Mohr in his country ...
"I can't believe it's draft weekend already. Strangely enough, during this time last year it was probably the most relaxed that I had been in awhile. It was like everything that I had ever dreamed about and thought about football wise was coming full circle and at that point I had done everything I could to make my case. All I could do then was sit back and see what happened and that was so relaxing for me.
"I have a lot of friends going through a similar situation this week so I've been trying to keep up with as much of this year's draft coverage as possible. I watch a lot of NFL Network and read USA Today over here and I'm anxious to see what happens.
"In the past year, I've learned how to prioritize and how to make everything I do count for something because you never know how many opportunities you're going to get or who is watching you. A lot of this has changed my approach to football and hopefully has made me better player.
"This weekend we got our first win, a 16-10 decision, over the Amsterdam Admirals. It felt so good to get that initial win out of the way. I got an opportunity to make some big plays (two catches, 27 yards) and it felt great walking off the field knowing we got a win and I was able to do my job, especially on the road.
"One thing that is really interesting here is the chance to play again with defensive end Christian Mohr. He's a German native who spent the entire 2006 season on the Eagles practice squad. Now, he's a starter in his homeland and I'm the visitor. He's the same player here as he was while we were in Philadelphia together. He goes hard all the time and every rep he tries to make himself better. It's obvious that he's more comfortable over here in Germany and he is clearly a fan favorite. But, he's been great to me. He's taught me a lot about the language and the culture and has definitely made the transition a lot easier.
"I'm very fortunate to be playing here in Dusseldorf for the Rhine Fire because our fans are very supportive and follow the team avidly. It's pretty easy to recognize us when we're out in public. We stand out a little bit, but the fans have all been so supportive. They take pictures with us, ask for autographs, wish us luck and tell us about all the games they're planning on getting out to. Hopefully, all that fan support will help us this weekend at home against the Cologne Centurions."
