Wide receiver Reggie Brown signed his five-year contract extension, one that reportedly provides a bonus of, gulp, $10 million. When he met reporters at his locker after practice on Friday, he talked about the new deal and its affect on him.

Brown has found the end zone 10 times in his short career
"I'm smiling," he said. "It was a good process and I'm glad it got done. It's a lot of uncertainty that comes to mind (during that kind of negotiation). You know it's a decision that could affect the rest of your life and it's something you have to take into consideration. You can't be too hasty when they throw money like that. You don't just at anything they offer. You just want to make the right decision."

When asked if the new deal makes him "a number one receiver," Brown said, "Money has nothing to do with what I do on the field. I still have to go out there and play and prove myself."

The Eagles Thursday night announced the agreement of the deal for Brown, the first of two second-round choices in 2005. The deal runs through the 2014 season.

"I love the city and I love this team. I have no problem playing here for the amount of time I'm going to be here for," said Brown. "It's a good place to be. The organization is committed to winning and that's a place I think any player would want to be."

The 25-year-old Brown became the third member of the draft class of 2005 to extend his contract in the last week, joining first-round draft pick Mike Patterson (signed through 2016) and fifth-round pick Trent Cole (2013).

The Eagles have extended the contracts of seven key players in the past five months -- Brown, Patterson, Cole, guard Shawn Andrews (2015), center Jamaal Jackson (2013), free safety Brian Dawkins (2008) and punter Dirk Johnson (2011).

Brown has emerged as a dynamic playmaker in 2006. He has two 100-yard games, the first two of his career, including a six-catch, 121-yard performance against the Saints. Before this season, Brown enjoyed two of his best performances against this week's opponent, the Washington Redskins. In the two games, Brown had 12 catches for 171 yards and three touchdowns.

The 6-1, 197-pound Brown has 1,073 receiving yards and 10 career touchdowns (nine receiving, one rushing) in 24 career games. Last year, Brown led all NFL rookies with 573 receiving yards last season and his 43 catches were the most by a rookie receiver in Eagles history. His hard work ethic helped breaked the myth that rookies can't succeed in the Eagles' West Coast offense.
