March 19 vs. Schalick H.S.
The Philadelphia Eagles opened their 2010 basketball schedule with an 81-65 victory at Schalick High School in Pittsgrove, NJ on Friday night. Making his Eagles debut was WR Jeremy Maclin, who poured in seven three-point shots en route to a game-high 29 points. He also dazzled the crowd with seven rebounds, six assists and four steals. Proceeds from the game benefitted Schalick's athletic deparment.
Fellow WR Jason Avant recorded a triple double (16 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists) against a talented Schalick alumni team that featured former Seton Hall guard Paul Gause. Eagles S Quintin Demps, fresh off a week's worth of philanthropic work in Haiti, contributed 12 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists, while Todd Herremans provided 10 points and 10 boards. King Dunlap (8 points) and Brent Celek (4) rounded out the scoring.
March 20 vs. Delaware All-Stars
The Eagles capped an exciting weekend of basketball in Newark, DE with a 77-54 victory at the Bob Carpenter Center on the campus of the University of Delaware. Sandwiched in between all-star games between the best boys and girls high school basketball stars in the First State, the Eagles used a three-point shooting barrage by TE Brent Celek to lead them over a group of veteran Delaware All-Stars.
Celek found his groove early and often in the game as he scored nine points in the first half and then opened the 2nd half with four straight long distance shots to end up with 23 points to go along with six rebounds. Jason Avant provided 15 points, 11 rebounds and four assists for the Eagles, while TE Martin Rucker, making his Eagles hoops debut, poured in 12 points while recording a team-high 14 rebounds.
Jeremy Maclin dished out 10 assists for the Eagles, while scoring six points and Quintin Demps scored all 10 of his points in the 2nd half, including a pair of three-point shots. Todd Herremans registered 11 points, five rebounds and two assists.
The game benefitted the Delaware division of Best Buddies, a nonprofit organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
