McNabb Vs. Romo Determines Winner Here

It is such a beautiful offensive machine when Donovan McNabb is on his game. He has time to throw, he has receivers open, he gets the ball to them in stride and they make big catches and big plays and the Eagles usually roll. Sunday night football is here, and Lincoln Financial Field is going to be rocking tonight and with all of the X's and O's we have discussed all week, Dallas vs. Eagles comes down to what NFL games normally come down to: Quarterback Vs. Quarterback.

In the case of Dallas, Tony Romo is playing some of the best football of his career right now. He is a major, major threat, especially when he has the opportunity to break the pocket, keep a play alive and throw the ball down the field. Sean McDermott has his plan in place. The Eagles, obviously, want to pressure Romo and force him into making mistakes.

I'm here to talk about McNabb, who has thrown 9 touchdown passes and only one Interception this season. It hasn't been easy for him to get to this point. He suffered the fractured rib in the opener at Carolina. He missed a couple of games completely, and then McNabb came back and torched Tampa Bay. The downer in Oakland followed, Then there was a so-so game in Washington.

Last week, McNabb was magnificent. The Eagles had a great mix of run and pass in the first half as they took the commanding lead, and then they ran the ball a lot in the second half. We've been through the run/pass stuff before. The Eagles, like most NFL teams, throw the ball more in the first half as they try to get a lead and put points on the board. If they have accomplished that, they lean more on the run in the second half.

So the Eagles are going to throw the ball around the yard tonight. Great night for it, too. Perfect weather. A great scenario for the Eagles to open the game as they opened it last week against the Giants. Come out and put the Cowboys on their heels and then deliver the knockout blows in the second half.

I see this as a game of adjustments, and I see this as a game of Romo vs. McNabb. The Eagles want to throw the football, as they should. With DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and the weapons the Eagles have, yeah, they should throw the football.

To do so, the scheme has to be in place to protect McNabb and give him time to look at the secondary and try to find some holes. What will the Cowboys do to try to limit Jackson and Maclin? How will the Eagles adjust?

And what does McNabb do to gash the defense? How does he react early in this game, especially as the Cowboys bring their pressure packages led by DeMarcus Ware?

McNabb is the guy, of course. You can talk all you want about the matchups, but it comes down to No. 5. In a quarterback-centric system, the offense relies so much on the play of McNabb. He has a great trust in his receivers, no matter their youth. In fact, the youth here is what makes the offense go. There is so much energy and speed and explosiveness. The receivers have the ability to go down the field and separate from the defense.

All eyes are on McNabb once again. The Eagles are an amazing 0-6 on Sunday nights. It is a streak to be broken tonight, and it is on McNabb, as the team's leader and quarterback, to lead the way. He isn't mentioned these days in the same breath as Drew Brees and Brett Favre, and even Aaron Rodgers. McNabb is flying under the radar quite a bit.

But not to those who watch every day. He is scrutinized more than any athlete in the modern day of this city. As McNabb goes, so go the Eagles. Even with a big, strong offensive line, and all the weapons, that fact hasn't changed over the years around here. McNabb is what makes it work from one week to the next.

Look at him early. If he starts well, the Eagles are going to score points. When McNabb gets it going, this offense is unstoppable. So it has been. So it is. So it will be with the Eagles.

McNabb vs. Romo. Romo vs. McNabb. There are all kinds of great matchups in this game, but when it is all over, how the quarterbacks perform is what is likely to determine the outcome.

He was on a roll last week. McNabb has every reason to keep it going tonight and send the Eagles into the midway point of the season on a high, feelilng good as leaders of the NFC East.

And no1 says nothing about the D giving up huge plays, one that won the game. We had the lead in the 4th, the D has to hold it. I know it cant be perfect but good teams find a way to win and the D sometimes just has 2 pick up for the O.

I sick of all the mcnabb and AR bashing, who were the eagles before them? They were one of the worst teams in the nfl. Andy came in and turn it all around, starting with drafting #5. Mcnabb miss some throws and play calling was suspect. But if things worked out and we won with the same miss throws and play calling no1 would say anything. I'll see the same people in a few weeks sayin they love andy n #5.

frank, i know your just upset but I think they can get together to make a run, IDK about superbowl but they have potential. I get angry and I hate on andy and company but I look around the NFL and it can be WORSE, and honestly the last 10 years I have had happier mondays then not because the eagles have been pretty successful.

You know, one word comes to mind when I think if this game, this season, and even the past 10 years for the Eagles: Disappointment. The same problems continue to persist. Andy Reid makes poor decisions in close games. Andy Reid cannot win a challenge. Donovan is too inconsistent. Man, when he is on his game, he is one of the top 5 QB's in the league, but when he is off his game, he is one of the bottom 5 QB's in the league. "Top 5" and "Bottom 5" alternate every other game it seems. Receivers drop balls at the most inopportune time. Sheldon Brown wants to get paid, but he is not a cover corner. He gets beat by good receivers. Period. The defense cannot get pressure on the QB without blitzing. As a franchise, we've been "close" for a long time, and I think that makes things all the more torturous as an Eagles fan. At 5-3, there is still plenty of season left...but so far, this season seems all too familiar.

Everyone will complain and panick for no reason, the Eagles are 5-3, big deal. They are 1 game out of first place with 8 games to go. They play Dallas again. They just won 2 out of 3 division games in a row. Tough task. They have a young inexperienced offense, a banged up O line and are inconsistent both in the run, pass and play calling. No Westbrook. The defense is solid except for the stupid big play, same as last year. Eagles are in the wildcard spot right now in a weak nfc so far. This team is far from average and still has a great shot to win the division, get in the playoffs and make a run for the superbowl. 8 games left. Half a season.

Unfortunately, **** outplayed McNabb and we are a pretty average football team like last year. Maybe we'll get the breaks again like last year, but it's unlikely. How about trying Vick under center on the 3rd and short and/or 4th and short with 5 WRs...then run it up the middle on a QB sneak? Just a thought. I hate our short yardage formation(s). We lose to Dallas at HOME? Really? That SUCKS!

Philip56210, Good to see you again and I again wish you and your team the best. Philly fans always have passion and emotion for their team. This loss will wash over and like Dallas when we were 2-2 you can look back at it as a painful experience but one that hopefully helps Donovan,Andy and the team to grow. I would fully expect the game in Dallas to be a nail biter too. Hope Westbrook gets medically cleared and has no residual effects from the concussion. Ok I am out of here. Hopefully will talk with you all around the next Dallas/Philly game. Nite.

Try to come here before and after games between Philadelphia and Dallas. Some of you know me as a Respectful Dallas fan who doesn't talk trash. I give your team props for a couple of reasons. 1. The Ref blew two calls that in one instance gives you guys a first down since McNabb was on his own player and not on the ground and appeared to pick up the first down. 2. I think some of you are right about Andy not going for it on 4th down and kicking a field goal and allowing Dallas to run out the clock. 3. I was extremely scared of your Wide Receivers and Dallas again picks up way too many penalties. It should be a good game when you the Eagles visit Dallas. IMHO if you would have had Westbrook we would have a much longer night and may not have won the game. You are IMHO right there with Dallas as the cream of the NFC East.

we had dumb a** penalties too though. the fokou block on the sheldon interception. that cost us so much field position. big plays like that are when the offense can get points. they have to play inspired or they're flat.

Super Bowl teams have QB that can lead their teams in times of adversity. McNabb is not that QB anymore. He was at one point early in his career, now he just doesn't have it any more. Hopefully we only have this year and next year to watch the Eagles waste games that they should win. I am not as mad that the Eagles lost tonight as I am that because of the offensive play calling and offense's inability to do anything when it mattered, it cost the team the game. The real issue here is that this is not the first time this has happened, or the second, or even the 10th, the issue here is that you have the same 3 people at the center of this - AR, MM, DM. Until one or more of these people are removed from this situation, it will continue to happen. Too sad that we continue to root and hope for something that will never happen with these 3.

Cowboys may win the division but they are 2 pegs below minnesota and new orleans. Eagles are a better team than Dallas BUT, between the injuries, the youth, the poor play by mcnabb, and the bad playcalling by Reid, this team isnt even close. Dallas kept us in the game with tons of stupid penalties.

yea i know a lot of dallas fans too. the 1st one to say something slick to me like they whooped us, is gettin five across the face. no bllsht. they put the dagger in us with one big play. like we do with some teams. live by the big play die by the big play. not to mention both tds we gave them the ball near midfield.

After the draft, I thought we were a superbowl team. Now, its clear that at BEST, we're a few years away (and Kolb will the QB that takes us there.) Our D has been phenomenal given the injuries, no dawkins and no jim johnson, our O has been underperforming. McCoy and Maclin are making rookie mistakes, which is fine, but our O has too many injuries, and combine that with McNabb's poor play and Reid's bad playcalling, and you have what we had last year. But even at our best, we cant beat the saints or the vikings.

I honestly believe that there is no team in the NFL that can beat the Eagles if the Eagles play near the level of ball they are capable of playing (just to many playmakers) however they dont play near that level very much if at all. I'm not fond of Rieds decisions by no means, however I think McNabb is more of the problem, but we are just stupid fans who don't know anything. We just pay this pathetic team our hard earned money. Until Ried gets out of McNabbs but, he will never make a change
