Monday Night Is A McNabb Kind Of Game

His reaction after losing in Oakland was as emotional and terse as we have seen: "I'm embarrassed," Donovan McNabb said, "and I'm not going to let this kind of game happen again." Here we are now, on the brink of the start of the NFC East schedule, and it is time for McNabb to back up his words. Monday night, in other words, is McNabb's game to win for the Eagles.

It is not all on the quarterback, of course, but McNabb owns a significant stake in this game. He is a leader on this team, the leader in many respects, and the way of the world in the NFL is that a team takes its cue from the quarterback. McNabb stood up after the Oakland game in which neither he nor his offensive mates played very well and expressed the kind of disgust that every player felt. It was an awful game all around.

In too many ways, it was reminiscint of the tie game in Cincinnati last season. The offense turned the ball over and failed to beat the Bengals and then the following week the entire season changed when McNabb was pulled at halftime of the loss to the Ravens and, well, it was a pretty exciting ride the rest of the way.

You wonder if this is a similar scenario. You sure hope that the week-after result is a lot different. McNabb was brilliant in the win over Tampa Bay, and then he couldn't get untracked as Oakland brought blitz after blitz and took away the timing of the Eagles offense. The blueprint is there for everyone to see, of course. Washington could very well come out and try the same thing on Monday night, leaving the Eagles the responsibility of making the right adjustments.

That means McNabb is on the spot. Hey, though, let's be honest: McNabb is always on the spot. He has his flaws, but the man has won an awful lot of games here, has led the Eagles from the NFL's darkness and remains one of the best quarterbacks in the league. After a game like last Sunday, the wolves are howling again.

The setting is perfect for a big showing. The national television lights are shining. The NFC East schedule begins. The Eagles aren't exactly in a must-win situation, but they certainly can't afford to open the division slate on the down side. Jon Gruden and Ron Jaworski will be up in the ESPN booth analyzing each and every McNabb dropback, lending to the scrutiny.

And, of course, the Eagles aren't going to take the ball out of McNabb's hands. Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg will put together an aggressive offensive game plan featuring the passing game. Washington's defense is stingy through and through and the Redskins won both games against the Eagles last season and are, no question, a desperate team at 2-4 and with head coach Jim Zorn's job security a headline issue all week.

McNabb is the one who must take the Eagles and lead them to victory, then. He stood up and accepted responsibility for last week's loss and said it would not happen again. He has to make sure his team practices the right way and prepares for this huge game.

We have all wondered about the leadership on the team after a roster shake-up in the off-season. A lot of veterans who were leaders are gone. A new generation of Eagles remains. So does Sheldon Brown and Brian Westbrook and a few of the others from the early days of this decade. But McNabb is the guy, the leader, the franchise quarterback.

This is his spot to deliver, to get the Eagles on the right track in the division and to wipe away the disgust of last week's defeat.

Bri) If you hadn't changed the ratified rules a modification would of been able to be considered. You handed the board the sword, and leaders must adhere to a just code of ethics.

Im just gonna keep it 100% funky wit yuh,If i was AR & with all these types of ballers we have on this team,I would use the s*** out of this wild eagle.I would have teams far more worryed then this talk of Vick.Hell...Vick would be there last worry..!!They wouldnt even know who or how to persue the field when im done with'em.I would have D's not just confused but, simply exhausted from running side line to side line leaving them with NO gas come red zone time. This also would help with are clock management.Leaving them behind & them have'en to be pass 1st.Then we sit back & pic off!!

3D, I would have no choice but,to agree with u on that BUT",why then did we choose to go with the wild eagle..?IMO thats why.RUNNING!!Its AR's way of doing so & yes is new for him,he just needs to believe in what he took on by actually use'en it.Another thing to is he needs to use it in different formations...yes were pass 1st but,the obvious was he noticed how good it works for the fins & of late these last couple years we tend to struggle with the run so he figured this could be his answere to that.Only difference is we could use it in the pass game or TRICKERY alot more then the fins do.

I have been watching AR for 11 years. He is pass, pass, pass...and run the ball very little. There were no half-time adjustments made during the Raiders game. We came out throwing the ball...even with severe pressue on #5. Passing is who we are. I have come to accept this with AR.

Ok...maybe its just me then but, i would bet my arse IF we used this wild eagle more in this past week...we would have won.We cannot let other teams change are game plan & thats what that game looked like.No different then how the fins use it wit Brown & Williams,we could also wit shady & #36.I bet if we used it like that we would be more successfull in are running attack.Have both on field at the same time with them handing the ball to eachother or simply even fake'en it.Then use Jax & Mac for sum reverses or even fakes with that.AGAIN..endless options, thats why we took on that..nO?

As i posted the other day with this whole wild eagle thing. Were eather going to use it OR not but, what ever they choose to do they need to just do it.In or out but,nO halfway!!We took a page from the fins & wanna give it are own twist on it which im koo wit BUT,are coaches obviously need to pay attention more to how they do it.We could use it way more & with more players on are team then they actually can.We have #36,shady,Jax,Maclin & hay,why not #7.Not including a better QB threat wit #5.The options we could use could be endless & would allways IF used right have D's confused!!

Nobody asked during AR's PC. Does 'Spoon' wear the green dot? Sounds like AR wants him on the field for all 3 downs.

The skins have not been blown out yet. Their defense is not struggling. Holding teams to 16pts on avg. B4 you tell me those are garbage teams, I know they are, the skins are holding them all below their averages and below what much better teams are letting those garbage teams score.

urgency???? Did you say urgency??? yup..this team better see it pretty quickly..or, again, we'll be on the outside looking in...and that could have major reprecussions on the look of this team for next year..

Here's my concern Bri...the Giants, granted , losing to the Saints, might not lose another game until they see us....Dallas is struggling, but are still a competitive team...should we fall to the Skins, as some in here think is possible..and lose to the Gmen, which is very possibe...that pretty much ends our season..that's my major conscern...there will be no secondary saviours this season, mark my words on that...this playoff scenario will be decided a lot sooner this year..

gs..because this team should be furious after that debacle from last week....the Skins are a sukarse team...we are talent wise 100% better then them...their defense is OK but we should be able to ligh up their secondary and run the corners all day on them..some of you seem to settle for what this team is showing us right now..I'm not..I'm sick of the talking and comments on how much talent these guys have..show me..simple as that..by dominating a much less talented team and kicking their arse like your supposed to do...

I guess that's my point as well, gtsch. I never go into a Redskins game expecting a great offensive showing. If we get one, great. If not, I didn't expect it anyway. We just need to kick off this little NFC East stretch with a win, and start getting hot.

I don't think it will be as close as that, but my ?? is really for bcrazy. If we don't blow out the skins but come away with a win why would you not be satisfied? I think it will be a 28-10 win... but if it is 14-12 I still wont panic.

I just think that after last week's performance, people won't be happy with a 17-0 win. I mean people will be happy about the win, but will be really concerned about our offense when I'm not sure it will be justified. I just don't think the Skins are a true litmus test for our O. We just need to come out of it with a win.

A bad O is numerous 3 and outs. A punter's game. Bad play along the OL...like last week. We are facing a good D this week. This is a low scoring UGLY game.

If we come out and run/pass 55/45 and win 14-10 is that failure? If so go pull for a college team cause no NFL team will satisfy you that way.

Define a bad O performance. Not putting up 35 pts doesn't mean ur O did not perform. In fact its contradictory to what everyone that is ****in about our O is asking for. More runs = fewer scores in the long run.
