Eagles Take Part In First Pro Vs. GI Joe Battle

Five soldiers stationed in Baghdad played Madden NFL 09 against linebacker Stewart Bradley and tight end Brent Celek in the first Pro vs. GI Joe competition in the NFL with the soldiers families in attendance at the NovaCare Complex on Tuesday night.

The soldiers from the United States Army's 10th Mountain Division played the game through XBox Live, a video game system allowing players to compete over an Internet connection.

The families of Private First Class Justin Gindhart of Philadelphia; Specialist Steven Moore of Mahaffey, PA; Specialist Joel Dolliver of Londonderry, NH; Private First Class Jeff Holt of Coleman, MI and Private First Class Marcus Peden of St. Louis, MO were able to connect with these deployed soldiers through SightSpeed, and online video conference service.

Pro vs. GI Joe is a non-profit organization that works to connect professional athletes, troops and their families through video game competitions and the Internet. Working with the USO, Pro vs. GI Joe transports the soldiers' families to the gaming venue from around the country so that they may reconnect via web cam with their loved ones overseas.

I was in the first gulf war and a rep from my family has served in every war since the revolutionary war. What a cool tribute! I can't believe how much support our troops get even with the debacle of a war we're in. Believe me when I tell you that it's not their fault that it's that way. Our so called leaders are destroying the fabric of our traditions. I know this is our Eagles website but this subject goes far beyond that. GO EAGLES, but LETS ALSO FIX OUR CORUPT GOVT TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is great to see the team and players help to ease the tensions that troops experience on a daily basis. It would be a once in a lifetime opprtunity for any of us to play and meet the players like that......good to see you do it with the troops fighting for all of us. When is the next match and how do fans get to see it?

When I was home on leave from Iraq during August, I was treated by the Eagles to a day on the sidelines during TC. It is good to see them continuing the effort to hook up some local troops with an opportunity like this. Yet another reason why I have so much respect for the organization. As soldiers in a war zone we have little to do with our downtime except play video games and other sundry distractions. I bet the real players got there butts handed to them by the soldiers. They should post the scores. LOL. Thanks again PE for giving us a little smile while we work here in hell.

This is cool. It is great to see Eagles Player and the organization reaching out to those serving our country. Not just to give the soldiers some down time, but also incorporating the families of the soldiers.
