2008 PROGRAM UPDATE
In 2008, the key drivers of Go Green! were renewable engery, energy efficiency and conservation, reycling and waste reduction, reforestation, and procurement decisions.

  • In 2008, the Eagles set a goal to power 100% of the organization's operations by the sun and
wind. End of year analysis showed the Eagles powered 97% of the organization's operations by
    the sun and wind.
  • The Eagles solar array at the NovaCare Complex produced 12,790 kWh of clean electricity
    in 2008.
  • Nearly all of the Eagles remaining electricity needs were powered by renewable wind energy.
  • Since August 2007, the Eagles have produced 30, 821 kWh of solar energy.
  • Through efficiency and conservation efforts, electricity consumption at Lincoln Financial Field
declined 21% from 2007 to 2008. Since 2004, electricity consumption at Lincoln Financial
Field has declined almost 50%. These conservation efforts offset the greenhouse gas emissions
equivalent to 17,179,344 vehicle miles driven every year.
  • Recycling reached a new high in both the percentage and the total tons of waste recycled (178
tons in 2008, or 22% of refuse).
  • In 2008, the Eagles reduced the amount of waste created by 121 tons compared to the year before
  • Through efficiency and conservation efforts, electricity consumption at Lincoln Financial Field
declined 21% from 2007 to 2008. Since 2004, electricity consumption at Lincoln Financial
Field has declined almost 50%. These conservation efforts offset the greenhouse gas emissions
equivalent to 17,179,344 vehicle miles driven every year.

  • Through tree planting, the Eagles offset 100% of the greenhouse gas generated by the organization's travel during the regular season and playoffs.

  • All soft tissue used by the organization is now 100% recycled, averaging about 30% postconsumer content. Not only is this an important environmental milestone, but it also afforded the Eagles the opportunity to create a marketing partnership with SCA Paper, considered by many to be one of the most environmentally sensitive companies in the world.

The Eagles and Renewable Energy:

  • The Eagles have recycled about 728 tons of mixed metal, plastic, paper, and cardboard. This is about the same as the annual waste stream of 880 average Americans.
  • Office paper purchases have included 174 tons of recycled paper. This has conserved enery equivalent to the annual eletricity consumption of 98 homes, prevented greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to that of 55 automobiles driven for one year, conserved over 1,400,000 gallons of fresh water, and has saved almost, 4,000 trees from destruction.

Continuing at these current levels, the GO GREEN efforts will have the following impact every year:
  • Energy conservation and green power generation will equate to providing electricity for almost 1,900 homes.
  • There will be a reduction in the trash stream by about 260 American households saving over 1,200 trees.
  • Eliminate greenhouse gas emissions equal to taking 2,600 automobiles off the road.
