On 1st down, Clinton Portis cut up the middle for a gain of 4. On 2nd down, play-action, Jason Campbell hit Chris Cooley over the middle for a 26-yard gain to the 50. On 1st down, Portis ran off the left end for a gain of 7 to the Eagles' 43. On 2nd down, Antwaan Randle El dropped a short pass over the middle. On 3rd-and-3, the Eagles stacked the line, Portis cut to the left and was stopped well short of the first down. No gain on the play. Durant Brooks punted the ball to DeSean Jackson, who fair caught the ball at the 20.
On 1st down for the Eagles, play-action, Greg Lewis was wide open over the middle but he dropped the ball. On 2nd down, DeSean Jackson in motion, Brian Westbrook took the handoff and went up the middle for a gain of 2. On 3rd-and-8, shotgun, Donovan McNabb fired the ball over the middle for Jason Avant, but the pass was deflected and incomplete. Antwaan Randle El fair caught Sav Rocca's punt at the Redskins' 25.
With 11:35 left in the quarter, from their own 25, Juqua Parker knocked down Jason Campbell's pass at the line of scrimmage. On 2nd down, Portis ran off the right tackle and was quickly brought down by Quintin Mikell after a gain of 1. On 3rd-and-9, shotgun, the Eagles brought the blitz but Campbell found Randle El for a 16-yard gain to the 42. On 1st down, Portis bulldozed up the middle for a 21-yard gain to the Eagles' 37. On 1st down, Portis rushed up the middle for a gain of 7 to the 30. On 2nd-and-3, Campbell hit Devin Thomas on a quick pass to the right flat for a gain of 12 and a first down at the Eagles' 18. On 1st down, reverse to Randle El who ran to the right and hit Chris Cooley over the middle and he ran in for the touchdown. Philadelphia challenged the play as to whether Randle El crossed the line of scrimmage before he threw the ball. The play was upheld.
REDSKINS 16, EAGLES 14
With 8:08 left in the third quarter, Quintin Demps took the kickoff at the 1-yard line and returned it to the 19-yard line for an 18-yard return. On 1st down, play-action, screen pass to Brian Westbrook for a gain of 8. On 2nd-and-2, McNabb's pass intended for Reggie Brown on a quick slant was deflected at the line of scrimmage. On 3rd down, McNabb's screen pass to Westbrook was complete, but nothing was gained on the play. On 4th-and-2, Rocca punted to the 24-yard line and Randle El gained 8 yards on the return to the 32-yard line.
With 6:34 left in the quarter, Portis ran off the right edge and gained 2 yards to the 34. On 2nd-and-8, Portis again ran off the right edge and gained 8 yards, enough for the first down at the Redskins' 42. On 1st down, Campbell pump faked, was able to avoid pressure and nearly hit Randle El over the middle but he dropped the ball. On 2nd down, Ladell Betts gained 1 yard up the middle. Mike Patterson was in on the stop. Washington used their first timeout. On 3rd-and-9, shotgun, the Eagles brought the blitz. Campbell rolled to the right and went down the right sideline for James Thrash who was manned up against Asante Samuel. Samuel was called for illegal contact which resulted in a first down. On 1st down at the Washington 48, Campbell hit Portis in the flat on the right side and gained 4 yards before being stopped by Samuel. On 2nd-and-6, Portis ran off the left edge and was stopped by Patterson after a gain of 2. On 3rd-and-4, shotgun, the Eagles rush four and Campbell found Santana Moss on the left side to the Eagles' 34. However, Devin Thomas was called for offensive pass interference. The 10-yard penalty made it 3rd-and-14 at the Washington 44. On 3rd down, draw play for Betts, he gained 4 to get back to the original line of scrimmage at the 48. Brooks' punt bounced at the 24 and was downed by Khary Campbell at the Eagles' 23.
With 2:53 left in the quarter, McNabb's quick pass to the left for Reggie Brown was incomplete. On 2nd down, play-action, McNabb went for Westbrook down the left sideline who was covered by London Fletcher but Westbrook was thrown off of his route and the pass was incomplete. On 3rd down, shotgun, McNabb threw a screen to Westbrook on the left side who gained 7 yards. On 4th down, Rocca's punt was fielded at the Eagles' 14 by Randle El, who went out of bounds at the 42. Tank Daniels facemasked Randle El, but that penalty was declined. Daniels also hit Randle El late and 15 yards was added to the return.
With 1:59 left in the quarter at the Eagles' 43, Portis ran off the left edge, but didn't gain anything. On 2nd-and-10, Portis ran off the right tackle and gained 9 yards to the 34. On 3rd-and-1, Portis ran off the left tackle and wasn't brought out of bounds until a 27-yard gain to the 7. Sheldon Brown brought Portis out of bounds. On 1st-and-goal, Betts cut up the middle and was tackled by Trevor Laws. He gained 3 yards on the play.
