Acquiring Vikings' DE
- Posted by eaglesfan0075

"I don't think the Vikings would go for a 3rd-round pick straight up (for DE Ray Edwards). While I don't think that Edwards is worth a 1st rounder, I do think he would be better than a DE we would be able to draft in the late 2nd round. He's definitely an upgrade over (Victor) Abiamiri, and while he may not surpass (Juqua) Parker in pass rushing, he does play better against the run and is a better all-around DE. Plus, Parker is getting older and Edwards is only 25. "

Opposing QBs attempted 580 passes against the Eagles defense last season and the unit averaged one interception for every 23.2 pass attempts. A testament to their attacking mentality, the Eagles were among the league leaders with nine players intercepting at least one pass.
In the wake of recent moves involving quarterbacks Jake Delhomme and Brady Quinn, Peter King of SI.com wonders why are teams not fighting to get Donovan McNabb or Kevin Kolb from the Eagles. King believes the Eagles will deal one of their three quarterbacks. Where and when remain the questions. He did offer this nugget, reporting that quarterback coach James Urban and offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg attended Fordham University's pro day last week. The school has a late-round quarterback prospect in John Skelton.

King writes: "Maybe it means nothing, but it's pretty rare for two coaches to be looking at a late-round quarterback -- especially when you're as packed at quarterback as the Eagles are. Unless, of course, you're planning to jettison one of your quarterbacks before the draft."

Todd Herremans
We caught up with OG Todd Herremans, a Pro Bowl alternate last season and key cog along the offensive line. Check out our Q&A with No. 79:

On the unsettled state of the offensive line last season: "It was a tough season in that aspect. We weren't sure exactly what was going to happen or who was playing each week and stuff like that. But that makes you a stronger team in the future down the road. You get those guys all the reps that they usually wouldn't be getting in practice and in the games. You get them experience and the deeper you can be with your experience the better it will help you down the road.

"I'm pretty sure the majority of the offensive line is going to be here working out together the whole time. We know we can be way better than we were last year. Obviously, injuries play into that a little bit. All that aside, we're just going to get in here, work out with each other, get used to each other again and just be a tighter unit all together this year."

Todd Herremans
On his goals for the off-season: "Obviously, I'm trying to get stronger. Every year, everybody's trying to get stronger in the off-season. I just want to make sure my body is going to be healthy going into this year because it was such a dagger last year to sit and watch the first five games. I just want to make sure that my body is going to be ready for this season to be able to perform like I know I can right off the jump.

"Those five weeks kind of hurt me in my technique because I wasn't able to work it. So I need to work on some technique stuff and try to make it so I don't have to think about it when I'm out there. The goal right now is stay healthy, get stronger and be in better shape than I was last year."

On the off-season conditioning program: "(Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Barry Rubin) Barry's gone back to more of a power-lifting program where we're going to be doing cleans and squats and all of that stuff, and I think it's a good idea. Sometimes you get away from the basics that give you your explosion and you try to tip-toe around stuff and get too tricky when the lifts that you've been doing your entire life are the ones that are really going to help you. It's definitely good. I think we're going to come into this season stronger than we were last year for sure."
