The Eagles gave the undefeated Patriots all they could handle On Nov. 25, but fell short of ruining New England's perfect season. Former Pats cornerback Asante Samuel intercepted A.J. Feeley twice, the last of which came in the end zone during a potential game-winning drive in the fourth quarter as the Eagles fell, 31-28, in a nationally-televised prime-time matchup at Gillette Stadium.
Playing without injured quarterback Donovan McNabb, the Eagles rallied around Feeley, who threw for a career-high 345 yards and three touchdowns on 27-of-42 passing. He also tossed three interceptions.
Greg Lewis caught his first two touchdown passes of the season and Reggie Brown's 8-yard touchdown grab in the third quarter gave the Eagles a 28-24 lead. The Eagles led until midway through the fourth quarter -- and marked only the second time a team led the dominant Patriots in the fourth quarter this season -- when Laurence Maroney scored on a 4-yard run with 7:20 remaining. The Eagles defense did surrender 410 yards to the Patriots, but they did as good a job as anybody before them of slowing down the league's - and potentially history's - top-ranked offense. The Eagles were able to generate pressure on quarterback Tom Brady by using a mixture of coverages as they collected three sacks. Brady had been sacked 10 times in the first 10 games. He finished the game 34-of-54 for 380 yards and only one touchdown. Feeley overcame an inauspicious start as on the third play from scrimmage he was pressured up the middle by linebacker Adalius Thomas and threw a pass to Brian Westbrook which was read perfectly by Samuel and returned 40 yards for a touchdown. Feeley bounced back as he led the Eagles on a 14-play, 77-yard drive that ended with a 1-yard leap into the end zone by Westbrook, who finished with 92 total yards. - CHRIS McPHERSON
