With an ailing Donovan McNabb on the sidelines, the Eagles relied on a heavy dose of Brian Westbrook and a stout defensive performance to keep the Miami Dolphins winless with a 17-7 win at Lincoln Financial Field. McNabb left the game in the second quarter with a sprained ankle and a sore thumb. A.J. Feeley replaced McNabb and was an efficient 13-of-19 for 116 yards with a touchdown and an interception. However, the focal point of the offense was Westbrook, who toted the rock 32 times for 148 yards (both career highs).
Trailing 7-3 at the beak, the Eagles took command of the game at the beginning of the third quarter. After the second-half kickoff, the Eagles marched 62 yards in seven plays with Correll Buckhalter capping off the drive with an 8-yard touchdown run to put the Eagles ahead for good, 10-7. Feeley was 3-of-3 for 41 yards on the drive. Westbrook carried the ball three times and was a decoy on Buckhalter's touchdown run as Feeley faked the pitch to Westbrook before handing off the ball to Buckhalter.
Jason Avant's 4-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter put the game out of reach. The Dolphins tried to answer. Rookie quarterback John Beck, who made his NFL debut for the Dolphins, marched his team all the way to the Eagles' 1-yard line to set up first-and-goal. The Eagles stuffed Jesse Chatman twice and forced an incomplete pass to Aaron Halterman to set up a final chance. On fourth-and-goal, Beck took the snap and pitched it to Chatman, who was immediately swallowed up by Juqua Thomas for a 13-yard loss. Westbrook then iced the game with six carries on an 11-play drive that ate up 6 minutes, 21 seconds and only left Miami with 19 seconds on the clock. The Eagles defense surrendered only 186 total net yards and no points. The lone score for the Dolphins came on an 87-yard punt return by rookie Ted Ginn Jr.. - CHRIS McPHERSON
