Last year, the Eagles Cheerleaders were the first in professional sports to produce an eco-friendly calendar. This year's 16-month 2009-10 calendar features global warming facts and many of the images include elements that symbolize climate change. All 38 bio-licious cheerleaders are featured, wearing bikinis made from sustainable materials such as recycled plastic soda bottles, bamboo fibers and organic cotton. They take their eco-friendly passion one step further by wearing accessories made from natural renewable materials and other recycled, up-cycled and repurposed products such as telephone wire, vinyl billboards, magazines and household appliances.
As part of "Go Green," the Eagles' initiative to lessen their impact on the environment, the calendar will be printed on post-consumer FSC certified recycled paper.
This year's images were once again captured by renowned photographer Steve Vaccariello, named by Nikon as one of the top 50 photographers in the world. The Eagles Cheerleaders traveled to Aruba in May to shoot this year's calendar. Aruba's natural terrain of dry desert, cacti, distinctive divi-divi trees and sand dunes, combined with deep turquoise seas, beautiful landscapes and lush vegetation amid the arid desert, was the ideal setting to produce the eco-friendly calendar.
2008 cover girl Amy said: "This calendar illustrates that you can make simple eco-friendly choices and be fashionable."
Eagles Cheerleading Director Barbara Zaun also added: "The Eagles Cheerleader calendar is a unique example of how you can creatively practice sustainability with a mainstream product."
